Ivan Hatt, Jr - In Memory

I first met Ivan through my friend Don a long time ago. Through that introduction I was able to jump into the world of network gaming with the Command & Conquer games. Eventually we moved on to bigger and better things like Laser Tag. I remember that no one could clear a path through dense foliage like Ivan. Didn’t matter how thick it was either, he was unstoppable.

Over time it was revealed that Ivan had diabetes. That news never slowed him down or curtailed his adventurous spirit. In spite of health issues he continued to live life the best he could on his terms. I would run into him on the street from time to time, or we would exchange the occasional e-mail.

The last time I ran into Ivan was about six weeks ago. We were both at the Westside Health Clinic. He was picking up meds. I was trying to get paperwork straightened out for the PAP. We talked for about 45 minutes during that time and had some fun catching up and telling old stories.

I had no idea that occasion would be the last time I would speak to Ivan. He passed away on Monday, Jan 18. He had a massive coronary event that ultimately took his life. Ivan was cremated earlier this week as was his wish. A memorial service will be held for him sometime in the spring.

My condolences go out to his family and friends as they travel the path of grief for their loss.
